REGINE VS. WHITLEY
Regine was bougie, Whitley was part of the bourgeoisie. There are levels. Regine came from the same working-class, Jersey girl background as Kadijah but her aspirations and interests had her pursuing a much higher social status. All the while, she put on airs like she was already there.
Meanwhile, Whitley Gilbert grew up with private schools, lavish vacations, floor-sweeping furs, finishing school, and cotillions. When Whitley came to Hillman she was a pure-dee snob. She grew a lot over her time there, but freshman Whitley would backhand compliment Regine’s knockoff designer bag, and from then on they’d be enemies.
